I've had a lot of luck with this plant. I cut the end of a leaf (I think you call them leaves?) once to give it a shape. It worked.
Another time a leaf fell off so I just stuck it into the soil and it grew into a new plant.
I let the soil dry out then flood it with water. It works great!
I love the color and pattern of each leaf and how it grows right out of the ground.
The only problem is the leaves get so long that the plant falls over.
To prevent this I'm trying a metal ring near the base to hold things together.
This should work.
I've never cared much for snake plants, probably because my grandmother had one and I wasn't crazy about her. Sounds pretty foolproof though, and that's right up my alley. Swedish ivy is my favorite for that easy style of propagation, with an added bonus that when it's trimmed or otherwise "injured," it gives off a pretty scent.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny about your grandmother :)
DeleteI'll have to check out Swedish Ivy and give it a try.
Thanks for the suggestion!
I can't have any plants in my home because of my cat. I think I would like to grow this plant but I am not sure how to care for it. It seems very strong.
ReplyDeleteI love the second and third pictures very much. They are very artistic.
Thank you Kaya.
DeleteI'm not sure what type of houseplants would do well with a cat. Maybe a veterinarian would know what is safe.
Thank you for putting me on your blog list :)
I actually love these type of plants because they last very long and can cope well to changes. Good idea about putting a ring around the base as this helps to make them stand firm and tall. I also like to see them in bunches because they look so green and full.
ReplyDeleteI was going to wrap a string around the base when the idea came to me. The ring is the type that can snap open and shut. It was much easier than using a string.
