Is This a Weed ?

I found this plant in one of my flowerpots last year.  It looked too good to discard so I left it in the pot.  It survived the winter and I want to see what it will grow into.

I carefully dug it up and found this very long root.  It's more than twice the length of the plant!

I found another identical plant while I was working.  It's root was much shorter. It's the plant to the left.

I hope they live and maybe even grow into trees.  But they could only be weeds.

Does anyone know what they might be?  I could not find it on Google.

  1. I don't recognize it at all. Perhaps it will be clearer when they are much bigger.

  2. With the foliage and such a long root, it looks like some type of house plant; there are no 'weeds' as such. All plants have names and so many are beneficial to mankind - health wise. I've spent 50 years exploring the herbal world. It may be helpful to keep this plant inside; looks like the sun or cold has burned the tips. Good luck with it.

I see you listed as my follower of my blog. I wonder is you've stopped by lately.

  4. In your first photo that plant seems to be dancing with its shadow. Good luck with your plant.

  6. Will have to wait and see what it grows into. A mystery until then.

  7. John, it looks to me like a "long needle pine seedling."

You can check out this website and scroll down to see a photo that looks a lot like your plant.

    1. Thank you so much Jan. I think you may be right. The link you gave me helped. When I searched for pine seedlings I found some photos that looked almost identical to mine. So maybe it will grow into a mighty tree someday!!!
