I've been using the drug samples my doctor gave me. The medication makes me feel tired and in a low mood most of the day. I still do what I used to do but I need a short nap almost every day.
I asked the pharmacist for only a fifteen day supply to make sure it agreed with me before buying a month's worth. It was not something they usually stocked so I had my wife Lynette bring me back a few days later. I still had some of the samples from the doctor.
"Vimpat" is the name of the medication for seizures. For a fifteen day supply the price is $387, and that's with my insurance! It would be almost $800 for a month's supply.
The pharmacy aide asked if I still wanted to buy it. I did not buy it.
I left a message with my doctor's office. There must be another medication that's affordable, maybe with milder side effects.
The problem now is how will I taper off this medication and start on the new. I have enough for five more days.
Please get in touch with your doctor again, John, and ask him how you should wean yourself off of this medication.
ReplyDeleteBe very careful that you are doing the correct way!!!
Hugs and Good Luck
I will. Thank you Jan
DeleteI hope your doctor is able to help you with this and that he or she can find you a more reasonably priced medication. Perhaps something generic that's cheaper?
ReplyDeleteI think there must be something out there.
DeleteI've been lucky I've been only given generics except one for the flu. They are murder on prices
ReplyDeleteI want a generic.
DeleteI do hope your Doctor can suggest another medication ...
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
There is bound to be another medication that will work for you. And don't let them tell you the pharmaceutical company might give you a deal... they won't. It is disgraceful what they charge for medications that help us lead normal lives.
ReplyDeleteYes Emma, it is disgraceful.
DeleteMy goodness me that's a bit expensive every month, no wonder you won't be buying it.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the Dr. will guide you from one medication to another.
Thanks Margaret
DeleteYou have excellent advice above, so I will not add to that. Prescription medication has gotten to be outrageously expensive. Something must be done about this. Like your graphic.
ReplyDeleteThat is certainly very expensive! I hope you find something with a more reasonable price tag.
ReplyDeleteThank Martha. I'll just have to do without if there's no alternative.
DeleteIn your doctors' office are charts and coffee mugs and pens and pencils and note pads and calendars all gifts from the drug pusher(pharmaceutical representative) who brought him the free samples. If he gives away the most "free" samples and writes the most prescriptions he will get a trip to Hawaii or somewhere. No freebies are passed out for writing generic prescriptions. The free samples are of the newest drug. The most expensive drugs on the market. I have been where you are. good luck.....
ReplyDeleteThanks mohaverat. Making money is the goal and not just for a good living. They want to be multimillionaires or billionaires.
