I don't know the name of this houseplant. It did come with a tag explaining how to care for it but I lost it. This is the first time it sprouted in the five years I've had it.

The stem is sticky.
Some liquid is oozing from the flowers.
Does anyone know what this plant is called? When I did an image search on google it came back with "houseplant" then "flower"; not much help.
That's interesting John, though I'm useless with houseplants, I hope you find someone who can give you an answer!!
ReplyDeleteJohn,, We have one just like it in a pot in our living room, it has not grown like yours and never grew a stem like that, not sure what it is though, sorry. I am sure someone here will have the answer for you.
ReplyDeleteA cornstalk plant or Dracaena.
ReplyDeleteSounds like it is not easy to get them to bloom, so good for you!
Also, it says the flowers are very fragrant, so get ready.
Yes, I know what this is! I'm very experienced with houseplants. Originally I thought it was a Dracaena Janet Craig but seeing stripes on the leaves in one of the photos leads me to believe that it's actually a Dracaena Fragrans. This plant doesn't flower easily. I had one for years and it never did. If it's blooming it's letting you know that it's very happy and it really likes where you've placed it. So well done, you!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Martha. Every few weeks some parts of the leaves turn a bit flaky so I thought it was sick, but I guess not. I trim it once in a while to remove the brown parts.
DeleteI'm horrible at plant names of anything
ReplyDeleteLooks healthy with it's flowers coming out, just.
ReplyDeleteWill ask my husband he might remember the name for I can't! :)
Looks like a type of a cast iron plant (Aspidistra) but not saying it is that for sure.
DeleteLooks like you got your answer. : ) I hadn't a clue.
ReplyDeleteMartha seems to have solved your mystery! I had no idea so was waiting for an interior gardener to weigh in :)
ReplyDeleteI know nothing about houseplants except that they die when I try to keep them. The flowers look promising.
ReplyDelete...I'm not very good with houseplants, thank goodness Martha knew!
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
So well done, you!
