The Philosophy of Popeye

Popeye in his quest to be authentic -  to act from his values and principles,  and remain loyal to himself, his friends and community. "I yam what I yam and that's all what I yam," declared the existential philosopher, Popeye the Sailor Man.  "The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are." - C.G. Jung Self-acceptance that you have to embrace who you are.  Who am I really?  Who am I at the core of my being?  What do I really want to do with my life?  What will make me happy? Psychologist Erich From wrote: "Modern man lives under the illusion that he knows what he wants, while he actually wants what he is supposed to want."  From:  Fast-Pitch-9517   He's a stereotype of a sailor from the time. They had big forearms from handling tensioned ropes on deck all the time, which required (and continues to require) exceptional forearm strength and endurance. The sailor stereotype is also the reason for his w

Enjoy:  Here's the link to the earlier post. The video should work now: REFLECTIONS: My Daughter's Talking Dog!

Radioactive Cosmetics

The other day while browsing through the web, surfing for an interesting item, I came across this image of a beautiful woman. It's a French ad for cosmetics.   I knew about how the radioactive element Radon was thought to be healthy at one time. But these images brought this misconception to life for me. The sad thing is how lighthearted some of these videos seem to take such a painful way to die.

I'd like to share this video my daughter Laurissa sent me.  It was originally on SNL.

What Does #17 Have to do with a Pig?

I found this article while looking through The National Holiday List. I still don't see what they have to do with each other. "National Yellow Pig Day on July 17th honors the unique attributes of the number 17 and its significance to mathematics.  If you don’t think the number 17 plays any role in our lives, consider these facts: The number 17 is a premium number in the arena of prime numbers. Add the first four prime numbers together, and 17 is their sum. The average school bus weighs 17 tons with passengers inside. Each of the following words has 17 letters: interdisciplinary telecommunication misinterpretation commercialization electrophotometer The atomic number of chlorine is 17. Tempest Prognosticator ( I call it the Leech Weather Gadget)

My daughter bought me a Storm Glass last Christmas and w hile I was browsing the internet I came across a very strange weather predictor from the same time period called the Tempest Prognosticator. Both are from about the 1860's. First let me show you the Storm Glass (Fitzroy Storm Glass) my daughter gave me. It's more decorative than practical but it looks great on my desktop.  Mine always stays in the same formation as the Warming image above. See m y earlier post:    REFLECTIONS: Search results for storm glass I have a theory that it may not work very well because the liquid is in a sealed glass vessel.  It can react to the temperature of the room; maybe even some sort of magnetic or static force if that is possible. But it can't react to atmospheric pressure like a barometer. Now I've seen some old photos of storm glasses sealed on top with a cork instead of being completely sealed in glass. The cork is soft and should allow some changes in atm
Corona virus forced this restaurant to improvise. I took these photos from inside my car. Notice the "professional" look of the table, cone and red tape holding the sign. In such difficult times of the Corona virus it is a work of art highlighting the creative ingenuity of the restaurant staff. At first I was afraid my wife was getting into drugs from being so bored. 😃!   But they are only cosmetics and a hair band.  Still, it looks very suspicious at first sight. The disorderly tabletop does not help. Maybe after the virus is gone order will be restored. What is the name of this plant? You have to keep occupied during the Corona "house arrest". Any ideas about this plant? My brother emailed me this video.
