Depends on the type of headache. I used to get bad migraines when I was younger... ones that sent me to the emergency clinic on occasion for demoral (sp?). Now that I'm older, I mainly get the ocular migraine - aura that affects my sight, but less pain. Regular Tylenol works, but it takes about 30 mins. I tried something someone recommended on facebook a few months back... and it works for me. Plunge your hands and feet into hot water while putting a cold pack on your head/neck. It supposedly pulls all the blood to your hands and feet and away from your head (where the blood vessels are dilating and causing the problem). Believe it or not, it seems to work... usually within 5 minutes. This is probably more info than you needed, but thought I'd share.
The main thing that I would recommend is, if you do take a pain reliever, not to let the pain get too great before you take it. Apparently the neural pathways become strengthened the longer you have the pain. It is easier to stop it before it becomes too strong. For the same reason, if you find you have waited too long, take a stronger dose to start with (within the maximum dosage, of course). I used to have a lot of sinus headaches, for which I found Sinutabs helpful because they have a pain reliever and also a decongestant.
Hi John :) I suffer migraines. No pills work. Well, no over the counter ones. I find if I eat it helps, maybe it's just the chewing motion, I don't know. I also tried fennel tea lately and it gave me such amazing and surprising relief. Pressure on the head too, I wear tight hats and keep the lights low. Otherwise, I just have to wait it out. I hope yours is gone by the time I click on "publish".

DeleteThanks jenny. I've heard the same thing.
DeleteMy headaches aren't too bad, so simple Tylenol Extra Strength works for me. I hope yours is gone soon!
ReplyDeleteI use Tylenol Extra Strength too. But this time I'm also so very tired.
DeleteRarely get a headache but if I do it's disprin.
ReplyDeleteFor a few years I stopped getting headaches then they came back about once a month or so.
DeleteDoctors recommend coffee or any other drink high in caffeine. I guess coffe is best because it's hot.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I try first before taking Tylenol Extra Strength.
