I remember how slow it was to dial a number. Putting your finger into a hole, spinning the dial, then waiting for what seemed like forever for it to return. Some phones had the phone's number under the cover in the center of the phone. It was printed by the owner.
The times were less rushed back then so it really didn't matter. It looks warm and cozy for me.
I guess I'm showing my age. Anyone else remember?
Take care,
John
Oh yeah, I remember rotary dials. I even remember PRE-rotary dials, when you had to go through a real live operator to reach another number.

DeleteOh, the rotary dials! I remember the wall phones. When push button dials came, it was like a gift.
ReplyDeleteThe push buttons were much better, faster and easier.
DeleteOh yes, I do remember using a phone like this. My students did not even know what it was or how to use it. I couldn't wait to get a digital phone in my office as my department kept the old phones way too long
ReplyDeleteThe old phones seemed too slow for business or office.
DeleteUsed to use a phone the same, wasn't good for the finger nails a pencil was used.
ReplyDeleteI remember using pencils too.
DeleteI remember making a mistake on the last number and having to start all over again!
ReplyDeleteFrustrating
DeleteGrowing up we had these types of phones ...
ReplyDeleteHappy memories from those days.
All the best Jan
I do remember these. Like Debra, I remember what came before them, too - the two separate parts (earpiece and mouthpiece) and cranking the phone to create the different "rings" for other households or calling the operator to speak to someone on a different "line". I feel ancient when I think of that :)
