"Niccolò (or Nicolò) Paganini (27 October 1782 – 27 May 1840) was an Italian violinist, ...guitarist, and composer." Wikipedia
I saw the movie The Devi's Violinist on TV last night. At first I didn't think I would like it but once it started I loved it. It's about his life, except that they added a fictitious character who succeeded in convincing Paganini into making a deal with the devil, in exchange for fame and money.
The man who plays Paganini is a virtuoso violinist and played the violin himself. The singer sang her own part.
Here are the lyrics translated from the Italian:
Penso Io ti, Amore
(I think of you, love.)
Think of you, love,
when the sunshine
shines on the sea.
I think of you, love,
when every ray of the moon
is drawn on the sources.
I see when on the distant road dust rises,
when the narrow path Tremble Walker
In the deep night ... In the deep night.
I feel you, love,sad
When sound waves are moved.
In the quiet grove often hear me.
I'm with you
Even though you're away. You're with me,
While you are away. Oh! If you were here!
If you were here!

I wish someone could explain to me why the "powers that be" feel the need to add superfluous people and experiences to a biographical piece. The life of someone like Paganini should certainly stand on its own.
ReplyDeleteHaven't heard of this movie but now I'd like to see it!
ReplyDeleteI love violin music, and I have a feeling I'd love seeing that movie, I'm going to look for it, thanks for posting about it!
ReplyDeleteWe must add something for everyone when making a movie...when a biography is not enough then add a bit of fantasy. Or is it that every time a violin is played...the devil is waiting in the cortains off stage to wager a soul.
ReplyDeleteYou do find many interesting subjects to post about, John :)
John, I just got done watching this movie a few minutes ago from a free movie site, and I absolutely loved it!
