A Powerful Woman

National Dog Day

It was Yesterday but here's an article and video you may enjoy: NATIONAL DOG DAY National Dog Day on August 26th encourages dog ownership of all breeds. While seeking a new companion, be sure to consider the mutts, mixes, purebreds, and everything in between.  Whether mixed or purebred, embrace the opportunity for all dogs to live a happy, safe, and abuse-free life. They all give us companionship. Additionally, they keep us safe, and they aid those in need. Dogs play. Well, they play many roles in our lives, too! They keep us healthy, both physically and mentally. While many days aim to find loving homes for dogs, this day expands that consideration to look beyond the breed. Look into the heart of the animal. The purpose of the National Dog Day Foundation is to rescue 10,000 dogs each year.

Having Trouble With My Internet Connection

Lost phone, internet and TV. It was a short in one of my cable ports. Just got back on line. I'll be posting more often soon.

Unaware, Lost in His Sadness

How Can Anyone Eat This?

Saint Agatha's Breasts The story behind this is that a young woman rejected a Roman governor's advances and was punished by having her breasts cut off!  There are paintings of the saint holding her breasts on a platter!  Cream filled breasts. I guess if I don't think about the story behind these breast treats,  I'd love to try one. They look delicious. Here's the article: What’s the first thing you think of when looking at these delectable pastries? Your mind isn’t in the gutter—it’s spot on. Nuns around the ancient port city of Catania, located on Sicily’s east coast, paid tribute to their patron saint by baking pastries shaped like her breasts. Today, bakers around the city carry on the tradition. According to the story, not only did 15-year-old Saint Agatha of Sicily refuse to abandon her faith, she also rejected a Roman governor’s advances. As such, she was punished by having her breasts amputated, then died of her wounds in prison on February 5, 251 A.D. Fresco

NATIONAL MAIL ORDER CATALOG DAY – August 18

I still get some magazine sized catalogs to order from. like The Vermont Country Store.  So the internet has not wiped out the paper catalogs yet. Here's the article:   NATIONAL MAIL ORDER CATALOG DAY  What was once one of the most popular ways of shopping is remembered each year on August 18th as it is National Mail Order Catalog Day. This day marks the anniversary of the first Montgomery Wards mail order catalog. On this day in 1872, Aaron Montgomery Ward of Chicago produced a catalog designed for direct order via mail. He aimed to remove the middleman from the business of buying and selling. As a result, he also drastically lowered prices.   The very first catalog consisted of an 8 by 12-inch single sheet of paper. On it, Ward included the merchandise for sale, price list, and ordering instructions. Before long, the Montgomery Wards single-page list of products grew into a 540 page illustrated book selling over 20,000 items.  It didn’t take long for enterprising merchants to co

Planted Themselves on My Front Stoop

I was sitting on my front steps, lost in thought when I found these two plants. They are growing right out of the concrete between the bricks.  Their shadows are especially beautiful to me. Here are some more views of these two plants. This one is between the mat spaces. We usually use the back door so that must have helped the plants get settled.

Napping

Grandchildren Evey and Miles take a nap with their dog Ranger. My daughter Laurissa took this photo at just the right moment.

Any New Ideas?
