Halloween Chalk Sock

I remember how for Halloween some kids would fill an old sock with colored chalk pieces and break them into powder by hitting the sock on the ground.    If someone did not give out candy their sidewalk would be marked by large chalk spots.  It was harmless, a good rain or hosing would clean it all up. The older kids would sometimes hit the smaller children with a sock.  I remember how afraid we were that we might be hit.  It was more fright than pain. I found this video which is close to how we used to do it except that we did not use a grater, only the sidewalk. Here someone is trying to make money from such a simple project. Did you make "chalk socks" for Halloween when you were young?
Lynette began her physical therapy the other day and her pain seems to be easing a bit.  Thanks for your kind thoughts. I've been having some computer problems this week.  I'm running Windows 7 on my desktop.  I'll be switching to Windows 10 on a laptop soon.  I've never had a laptop and like the idea of its portability. Now I want to erase any duplicate files on my old PC before I transfer my photos and files to my new laptop.  I've come across several ways to do this and this weekend I want to try it.  First I want to get a little used to Windows 10.

Two Brothers

With My Brother a Long Time Ago. Very Young Tricycle and Teddy Bear  The time before school, high school, college, work, circumstances and family responsibilities made it impossible to remain young kids just enjoying life.

Lynette's Ankles Not Broken

Luckily Lynette only sprained her ankles when she fell down the concrete steps leading to our backyard. I thought both of her ankles were broken. She could not stand so I called 911, just in case it was more serious.  They took her to the emergency room.  X-rays showed no broken bones. On the way home from the hospital we picked up some Mexican take-out to celebrate. Now it's time to get into our pajamas and watch TV. Tomorrow should be better.

Time for Octoberfest

Wikipedia: Oktoberfest is the world's largest Volksfest. Held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, it is a 16- to 18-day folk festival running from mid or late September to the first weekend in October, with more than 6 million people from around the world attending the event every year. Locally, it is often called the Wiesn, after the colloquial name for the fairgrounds, Theresa's meadows. The Oktoberfest is an important part of Bavarian culture, having been held since the year 1810. Other cities across the world also hold Oktoberfest celebrations that are modelled after the original Munich event. The  Oktoberfest  tradition started in 1810 to  celebrate  the October 12th marriage of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig to the Saxon-Hildburghausen Princess Therese. The citizens of Munich were invited to join in the festivities which were held over five days on the fields in front of the city gates. Wikipedia I always thought it was to celebrate the end of season harvest.

Summit Point Racetrack in West Virginia

We took Miles to see see a car race.  It was also the first one I've ever seen. Miles loves the Cars movie cartoons and has models of some of the characters. When he saw the real cars the first thing he noticed was that they did not really have eyes. Summit Point Racetrack Below is a clip I found on YouTube.

My First Tractor Pull

I thought a tractor pull was like a tug of war with two tractors pulling apart with a chain holding them.  But it's a tractor pulling a heavy sled.  The winner is the tractor that pulls the sled the farthest down the track. Here's a description from Wikipedia: Truck and Tractor pulling, also known as power pulling, is a motorsport competition, popular in United States, Europe (especially in the Netherlands, Denmark and Germany), Australia and Brazil, and New Zealand which requires modified tractors to pull a heavy sled along a 35 foot wide, 330 foot long track, with the winner being the tractor that pulls the sled the farthest. The sport is known as the world's most powerful motorsport, due to the multi-engined modified tractor pullers. All tractors in their respective classes pull a set weight in the sled. When a tractor gets to the end of the 100 metre track, this is known as a "full pull". When more than one tractor completes the course, more weight

Looks like she's exercising, while the dog stands by. In this video her mother called her "My Little Conductor".

Mystery Man

As a hobby I do a little Family-Tree type genealogy and I came across this old photo.  It's not my father but the family resemblance from my father is there.  I look different because of the effects of my mother's and grandmother's genetic influence. I think he's one of the grandfathers I never met. Here's an extra large view: Here's the back.  I can't make out the writing but I can see a few Italian words. Some blue numbers are written over part of it. Here's an extra large view: Some of the words I think : "Hope that...this...no...life that...true..." Mt guess on the numbers on the back: 500, 1072, 1011, 1010 Could it somehow be a phone number? I don't think it's some coded message. It was written upside down over the letters with a thicker pen and different ink. I'm considering having it restored by a professional.  Some sites can do it from an uploaded photo.  That way the original will always be wi

Some Brooklyn Photos While Visiting Newborn Evelyn 2017

My favorite bridge is the Brooklyn Bridge. (Feel free to use these photos.) We visited a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Brooklyn that is located between the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges connecting Brooklyn to Manhattan across the East  River. Miles and his father Ryan look across the East River. The Manhattan Bridge   The Manhattan Bridge is also a favorite but it lacks the stone construction of the Brooklyn Bridge towers, using steel instead. Here is Jane's Carousel, as seen in the map above.  It was closed that day. Evelyn and her mother Laurissa.
