My Plant Just Grew a New "Thing"

I don't know the name of this houseplant.  It did come with a tag explaining how to care for it but I lost it.  This is the first time it sprouted in the five years I've had it. The sprout from different angles: Up close: The stem is sticky. Some liquid is oozing from the flowers. Does anyone know what this plant is called?  When I did an image search on google it came back with "houseplant" then "flower"; not much help.

Lynette began her physical therapy the other day and her pain seems to be easing a bit.  Thanks for your kind thoughts. I've been having some computer problems this week.  I'm running Windows 7 on my desktop.  I'll be switching to Windows 10 on a laptop soon.  I've never had a laptop and like the idea of its portability. Now I want to erase any duplicate files on my old PC before I transfer my photos and files to my new laptop.  I've come across several ways to do this and this weekend I want to try it.  First I want to get a little used to Windows 10.

October 2017 Last Tomatoes & Zinnea

They are all beautiful and I like the yellow ones most. The Zinnea are tall this year. Last of the tomatoes are smaller now. The bees are still busy. I cleaned up the vegetable patch a little, no more cucumbers, small tomatoes.

National Pumpkin Seed Day

"Many of us have fond memories of roasting these delicious nuggets after carving the Jack o’ lantern, but most of us never realized just how good (and good for us) they were. But surprisingly, pumpkin seeds have been valued for their dietary and medicinal properties for thousands of years. In fact, pumpkin seeds have been traced back as far as 7000 BC, according to archeologists excavating a tomb in central Mexico. Among other civilizations, the Aztecs and Mayans were believed to revere pumpkin seeds as an important and powerful source of food and nutrition. As it turns out they were on to something – In a comparison to other nuts and seeds, Pumpkin Seeds are one of the most nutritious plant-based foods. A quarter cup serving alone includes an immune-boosting 17% of an adult’s daily allowance of zinc and a powerful red blood cell-supporting 15% of the iron needed. This little seed also has a whopping 8.5 grams of complete plant-based protein in just 1 ounce. Ounce for ounce

Autumn

I took this first photo a few years ago. The next two are from the web:

Lynette's Ankles Not Broken

Luckily Lynette only sprained her ankles when she fell down the concrete steps leading to our backyard. I thought both of her ankles were broken. She could not stand so I called 911, just in case it was more serious.  They took her to the emergency room.  X-rays showed no broken bones. On the way home from the hospital we picked up some Mexican take-out to celebrate. Now it's time to get into our pajamas and watch TV. Tomorrow should be better.

Time for Octoberfest

Wikipedia: Oktoberfest is the world's largest Volksfest. Held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, it is a 16- to 18-day folk festival running from mid or late September to the first weekend in October, with more than 6 million people from around the world attending the event every year. Locally, it is often called the Wiesn, after the colloquial name for the fairgrounds, Theresa's meadows. The Oktoberfest is an important part of Bavarian culture, having been held since the year 1810. Other cities across the world also hold Oktoberfest celebrations that are modelled after the original Munich event. The  Oktoberfest  tradition started in 1810 to  celebrate  the October 12th marriage of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig to the Saxon-Hildburghausen Princess Therese. The citizens of Munich were invited to join in the festivities which were held over five days on the fields in front of the city gates. Wikipedia I always thought it was to celebrate the end of season harvest.

Apple Harvest Fair

Some of the many apple diseases were on display. The fair had a few country singers, no one famous.  Local crafts were on display for sale. We didn't play the bingo games but sat at one of the tables to get some shade from the sun. It was a quiet summer afternoon.

IT The Movie

The other day I saw Stephen King's movie "IT".  I did not like it at all.  The clown was not scary for me. Above is a photo of the clown from IT. The characters were mostly young kids with annoyingly squeaky voices. The plot was weak.  At the end of the movie along with the credits was "CHAPTER ONE".  It shows they are planning for a sequel. Just my opinion.  Maybe you'll like it if you're a Stephen King fan. I think the TV series "American Horror, Cult" is much better.  The clowns are scarier and the plot is for adults, more complex. Some clowns from the show: My favorite has his mask on.  My favorite putting his mask on.

More Poor Designs from Bored Panda

I wonder what they are smoking. At first I couldn't see what was wrong with this picture until I studied the shadow. I bet the designer gets easily lost. Somehow a slice of grapefruit does not look like the letter G. This do-it-yourself project just did not work out. I hope I would do a better job.

Summit Point Racetrack in West Virginia

We took Miles to see see a car race.  It was also the first one I've ever seen. Miles loves the Cars movie cartoons and has models of some of the characters. When he saw the real cars the first thing he noticed was that they did not really have eyes. Summit Point Racetrack Below is a clip I found on YouTube.
