Feeling Depressed vs. Clinical Depression

This post is an update from an earlier post.

In a comment I made on the excellent thought provoking blog RUM-PUNCH-DRUNK
( Link: RUM-PUNCH-DRUNK)

I was explaining how I felt about depression. This video explains how clinical depression works.
~If someone has a reason for sadness like a death in the family it is not clinical depression.
~If someone has no reason to be sad but is sad without an explanation this could be clinical depression.

I hope you find this video useful.
The video is from the Mayo Clinic website.

  1. You are right if someone can explain the reason for his/her sadness, s/he is not depressed and will be able to overcome it; but taking any medication is the worst solution and it creates new problem; the best solution is HOPE; learning how to keep it all the time and never loose it.( I tried several times to write the comment, but there was problem)

  2. Thanks for the comment.
(I'm not sure why there was a problem with making a comment but I'm glad it finally went through.)
    Have a good week!

  3. This is a great explanation. I learn all about "brain communication" at university but diseases were not the speciallity of my course. It's always great learning new things :)

  5. Spot on. Clinical depression can also include other nasties like psychosis.

  6. You're right. Many of these mental diseases are interrelated.

  8. I've just seen this post and will no doubt come back to look at the video in detail.

I also thank you for linking me in this post because I wrote about depression some time ago. I do feel there is a very big difference between someone being depressed about a bad situation but once that situation has been dealt with they are happy as lambs again. And someone who suffers from 'real depression' when despite having no adverse circumstances, they still find life an intolerable burden (best way I can explain it).

    1. It's a good explanation. I wanted to post this again because I deleted all my blog photos. I didn't want important posts to be lost.
I think your blog is one of the best. I'm glad I found it.
      Enjoy the weekend!
