Potting Top of My Zebra Plant

The top of the plant fell off one day. I put it in a small shot glass filled with water. When It did not wither and die I decided to try planting it. The photo above shows the top replanted. I used the two white plastic plant labels for support.

Below is the plant without its top.  The top was a bright yellow until it started to fade then fall off.

Here is the link to my original post about this:

The Top Fell Off My Plant!

In the shot glass of water:

Close up of the plant top in the shot glass. See how green and full of life it is? I couldn't throw it in the garbage!

I didn't see any sort of root at the bottom end:

A closeup:

I'll just have to wait to see what happens.

  1. I feel that you are doing the right thing, John. By doing all that you can, you are giving this little "topper" a chance at new life~~~

  2. I too think you made the right call, John. Sometimes these plants have great regenerative powers. We used to have quite a few bromeliads that we got starters from my MIL in Louisiana, but alas over the years, have let the cold get them. We used to bring them in every winter, then got lax...

  3. Good Luck, John! Since the top looked like a flower, it might act like a seed and grow :)
