Backyard Cypress Vine

The blossoms are tiny and an intense deep red.  These photos show the pollen coming from their centers and landing on their petals.

Here you can barely see how tiny they are, hidden in the vines.

We had beautiful pink rosebushes climbing up the trellis but for the several past years they did not do well.

Here is one from behind.

I may try developing them in an ACEO size ( 2 ½ X 3 ½ inches).

  1. John, what a lovely little climber...there sure is a lot of pollen on each little flower.

That's to bad about the roses. I'll bet at one time they were gorgeous!

    1. The roses came back each year. The cypress is an annual so I'll have to replant it.
I only wish the vine was thicker. But the daintiness of the flowers makes up for it.

  2. John, as I've mentioned before, I love cypress vines. They remind me of home. My MIL had them all over her backyard in St. Rose, across from the Mississippi River. The vine is so delicate and the flowers so tiny and red. I'm glad yours are doing well.

    1. Thank you Rian.
I like the way they quickly grow with their tiny tendrils reaching out to grab hold of the trellis.

  3. John, that is a very special flower. I have never seen this flower. So vivid and so tall. It looks a little bit fragile but I am sure that this flower is strong. You photographed it very beautiful, John1

    1. The second photo with the trellis shows how tiny the flowers are before I got up close. My daughter discovered it. I grew this from a package of seeds she gave me.

  4. I love it's deep red colour John, and it really is very small but very pretty. It would look awesome if that trellis was completely covered in them too.

    1. Next year I'm going to try enriching the soil with Miracle Grow soil and planting more seeds.
