Coincidence or Synchronicity?

Carl Gustav Jung
July 26, 1875 - June 6, 1961

Did you ever notice how some coincidences seem to be more complicated than pure chance?  They have a meaning which coincidences do not have.  The event just makes sense even though there is no physical link.

In an earlier post I mentioned how my daughter took a bus to come visit us. On that bus was a man who offered her some orange flavored Tic Tacs.  She did not accept any.  The man looked a little strange to her.

When we met her at the bus station I offered her some orange Tic Tacs!  Now I usually don't eat orange flavored Tic Tacs but that day I had some.

Was it pure luck or did it mean something?  Was it some force or intelligence somehow preparing for her visit?

I read that Carl Jung created the concept of synchronicity to explain these types of events.  I decided to do a little more research.

I found this quote:
"Jung believed in the “complex” or emotionally charged associations.
He collaborated with Sigmund Freud, but disagreed with him about the sexual basis of neuroses.
He founded analytic psychology, advancing the idea of introvert and extrovert personalities and the power of the unconscious."

Here's a good definition:
“Synchronicity is a term used by Carl Jung to describe coincidences that are related by meaningfulness rather than by cause and effect.” ― David Richo

Jung on fantasy.

Have you had any experiences with synchronicity?

  1. I do believe that something happened that was probably strange and meant to be, but I am just not sure what that something is, John. I do believe that your daughter was wise not to take the tic-tacs no matter what~

  2. It happens to me all the time. Maybe there is a day where I see a certain color everywhere. Or I might be hungry for Mexican food and someone calls to invite me out to a Mexican restaurant. To an observant person these are almost common occurrences.

    1. I think many people are in too much of a hurry to notice it.
Constantly being on cell phones and tablets doesn't help.

  3. What an interesting post. I really like your blog but because it is not listed on my blog roll, I neglect to visit you. That has been my "loss" and I'm adding it immediately.
I think the tic tac offering has some meaning. If I were your granddaughter, I would say, "Why are people offering me orange tic tacs today?"
Carl Jung has a beautiful face of a man with a firm, yet warm character. I could look at his picture a long time. Some pictures of people are worthy of only a glance. I used to love to be around the aroma of pipe tobacco and it reminds me of my grandfather.

I don't know if this would count as sychronicity but last night, when the darkness came, I thought, "Today was my day to meet new and interesting people." I was at my daughter's in the morning and talked to her new neighbor across the back fence. What an interesting conversation we had, about blood moons, vedic astrology and hair growth (ha). Mid-day, a husband and wife (a techie combo) came to my house to help me set up a program for my Rife machine. We had a brilliant conversation about natural health and healing and how much frequencies affect every living thing. Also talked about Rife, Tesla and Lakhovsky.
Then in the early evening I passed by the house of my neighbors, a lovely young newly married couple. Her mother was visiting from Missouri and I was in awe of her physical beauty. We talked about the merits of raising goats and chickens as we were standing next to the fenced area of their critters.
I loved the varied conversations I had with all of the new people I met. Humans are soooo delightful.

      I wish I was there.
Thanks for adding me to your blog roll.

  4. Our minds evolved to seek out patterns which include patterns in the time of events.
