I'll Try it Again: "Try Something New for 30 Days"

I tried doing this several years ago and just could not keep up with it.  Maybe I just lost interest.  My guess is that I started a 30 day project then learned that it was not for me.  It was a mistake. It was something I really did not want to do. Even so, I felt like I had failed at it.  This discouragement led me to just drop the whole 30-Day thing.

Here's the video about trying something new for 30 days:

For my next attempt I'll try to:

1. Give the project a few days to try out.  If I feel it's worthwhile I'll continue.  Otherwise I'll choose some other goal. There's no shame in stopping a goal that's a mistake.  If I'm going the wrong way there's no shame in correcting course.  (As an example I need about 8 hours of sleep.  If I try to get by on less I'll feel miserable.  So I'll stop and  just switch to another project.)

2.  The goal must be realistic, not almost impossible to do.  (A bad habit might take longer than 30 days or I might need someone's help.)

3.  It must be what I really want, not just anything to fill up the 30 days.

4. I can start at any time, not just the beginning of the month.

5. I'll continue with the project past the 30 days if I want or just remember it as a completed project.

6. It's okay to skip a few days then go back to finish the 30 days or even skip a month.

Do you have any thoughts about this?

Have you tried it?

  1. Could this be something similar to a New Years resolution I wonder?
You decide to do something / or give something up?

With anything like this I think you need to be focused, you must want to do it, and the goal must be realistic and within a realistic time frame.

I'm sure there are those that have thoroughly enjoyed and found improvements when doing a 30 day challenge, whereas some who feel it's not for them.

Interesting - but for the moment I think I'll pass on this.

    All the best Jan

    1. I think it's like a New Year's resolution but for only 30 days.

  2. It sounds like the story of my life. I try something new that catches my interest. I like it and become completely immersed. Then something new catches my eye and I am off to try that only to totally ignore the previous thing. No wonder my mother called me a fliberty-gibbet.

  3. These are all great points. Sometimes we think we'll like something and then realize we don't once we get started, so there's really no point in continuing with it. Nothing wrong with giving it up or changing directions. That applies to so many aspects of our lives!

  4. it is okay to feel this way .it happens that we chose something to do and then realize that it is not that we wanted to do actually .i still have the unfinished lace that i tried when my cousin were making it but soon i found that i don't like to do this it was just provoking from environment .
points you mentioned are great .you can go with them easily

    1. That's right. If you don't try it you won't know if you might like it or not.
