I Did It Again!

I seem to fall every six months or so.  I'm hesitant to use a cane because it makes me feel so old.  But it's much better than losing my balance.  Maybe I can find a cane that looks good and not make me feel frail.

Luckily it happened just as I got to the treatment center in the hospital.  A man and his daughter stopped and left their car to help me.  My glasses and cell phone were in the street.

The nurses at the IVIG infusion area took me to the emergency room where a CT scan showed no broken skull where I landed on the back of my head.  My blood work was good.

My IVIG treatment was rescheduled for tomorrow.  No luck having it cancelled for this month!

  1. So sorry about your fall. And glad it wasn't too serious. I guess it's a balance thing with us older folks... I haven't fallen myself, but know many who have. (Actually I did fall about a year ago... but I slipped on a wet floor in a hotel, so that may not count.)

  5. Glad you weren't hurt. My tough love advice is "stick your pride in your back pocket and get a good solid cane!" Better safe than sorry!

  6. Having just had a fall a couple of weeks ago, my empathy meter is at extra-high! I'm glad there was no damage to your skull. Were you warned to watch for concussion symptoms? A street or sidewalk is hard on the noggin. Hopefully at least you didn't have a long wait to see a doctor and get the CT scan ordered.

  7. Oh, and they do sell very splash canes these days. My cousin who I mentioned before gets the IVIG treatments hasn't much feeling in her feet so she uses a cane or a walker depending on how far she has to go. Her cane is psychedelic :)

  9. What you need is a fancy carved walking stick. You would feel dapper and more balanced. Glad you were not seriously injured.

  10. No shame in using a cane my friend, I had to start using one at 42, just find yourself a good sturdy one as there are so many options out there, it is better to use one than crack your skull, with that said a cane makes you look pretty good.

  11. It can be scary, I hope I never live in a place that has stairs when I get old. I know those can kill.

  12. Now John, you need to use a cane, okay? And take things very carefully!
Look, we won't call it a cane, we will call it a "balance support stick" and only the most handsome men use them!

  14. Oh i am so sorry John for such painful experience my friend!

i think that you should use cane which you like have in your hands and stay safe please!
you reminded me some of my great grand uncles including my grandpa back in village who used to walk up and down to the hills very safely with cane in hands ,never heard about anyone who ever fell .
although there were ladies of same age who fell down and broke their hip or ankle because none of them was using cane ,why i could not get then as kid.

my parents used canes for quite time .
heartiest best wishes for your health John
