The stems are thicker than I thought they would be. They must be strong enough to hold the plant up.

Wow, these are gorgeous! I love sunflowers. It's been a few years since I grew them, and I should get back into it. They are such spectacular plants.

Some good information. I never thought about the symmetry of sunflowers. I just knew
ReplyDeletethe large one contained a lot of seeds for the birds. Most years I've planted the very
large sunflowers too but I've stopped because digging out the stalk and roots is like
digging up a tree. Some of the smaller ones volunteered to come up again this year.
They are a beautiful flower. I thought all sunflowers turned with the sun. Guess not.
I thought they turned with the sun too. Maybe the angle of the sunlight and the shadow of my trees has something to do with it.
