Sunflowers Blooming July 2015

Our sunflowers grew extra tall then began to bloom.  They don't turn to face the sun though.  Maybe it's the variety of sunflower plant.

The stems are thicker than I thought they would be.  They must be strong enough to hold the plant up.

This intricate swirling detail follows a mathematical rule.  Here's a video I found that best explains it.

AMAZING!

This bug seems to be checking out the mathematical details.

I'm glad I found the video to explain the pattern.
Some other sites had very detailed mathematical equations.

I love sunflowers and the fact that the seeds are arranged so perfectly and done so as to maximize the space makes me believe in a Great Creator.

  9. Some good information. I never thought about the symmetry of sunflowers. I just knew
the large one contained a lot of seeds for the birds. Most years I've planted the very
large sunflowers too but I've stopped because digging out the stalk and roots is like
digging up a tree. Some of the smaller ones volunteered to come up again this year.
They are a beautiful flower. I thought all sunflowers turned with the sun. Guess not.

    1. I thought they turned with the sun too. Maybe the angle of the sunlight and the shadow of my trees has something to do with it.
