Crumb Cake Covered with Powdered Sugar & A Happiness Lecture

The snow covered rough soil looks like crumb cake covered with powdered sugar if you use your imagination.

I spent the day loafing, waiting for my energy to return. I was just so tired.

This leaflet was in my mailbox.  At first I did not notice what was wrong with the image.
Maybe the lecture doesn't always help!

Open a Wine Bottle without a Corkscrew

I  just might try one of these methods even if I do have a corkscrew handy!

I love gadgets and experimenting with different ways of doing common tasks.

It's better to use a white wine so there won't be any staining.

Open a Tin Can with Your Bare Hands?

This Russian video shows how to open a tin can without a can opener.  In an emergency this could be necessary.

I don't think this will work if  you have arthritis.  Maybe it would work if a lot more time was spent bending the can back and forth.

Placing the can on the edge of something hard like a sidewalk curb and using your foot would be easier even if not very appetizing.

Sugar - Women

This video is from the self-study Italian course I'm taking.  Understanding what's happening in the video is hard for me to follow but it's a lot of fun.

There are many other courses available for no charge.

A very rough translation from Italian using Google Translate:

Sugar - Women
Women Looking for trouble
Women with a phone that never rings
In the middle of a street
Women in disarray without company
In the eyes of the recommendations have
And the desire to adventures
And if they have made many mistakes
They are full of fears
You see them walking together
In the rain or under the sun
Inside dull afternoons
Without joy or sorrow

planets dispersed
For all men so different
Friends forever
Fashionable women, women against the current ...

In the eyes have airplanes
To fly at high altitudes
Where you can breathe the air
And life is not empty

You see them walking together
In the rain or under the sun
Inside dull afternoons
Joy without pain it

Looking for trouble
Women with a phone that never rings

In the middle of a street
Women in disarray without company

I chose you - a woman - for a friend ,
but my job is to live the life
it is everyday or unknown ;
I love strong , faint companion
that sometimes learns and teaches some

Mr. Leotard and the Flying Trapeze

“Synchronicity is a term used by Carl Jung to describe coincidences that are related by meaningfulness rather than by cause and effect.” ― David Richo

It all started while I was watching "It Happened One Night" with my wife.
When a song about the "Daring Young Man..." came on she said to me
that it might be good for one of my posts.

Yesterday on January 8, 2014 I did a post about the song:

Now today January 9, 2014, I somehow surfed my way to a post named "Why Leotards Are Called That" from the Today I Found Out blog.
Here's the link:

Some excerpts:

"Born in 1842, Leotard is best known for inventing the flying trapeze routine. His father owned a gymnasium and trained Leotard in his early years. As a boy, he became proficient at the parallel bars and eventually thought to suspend a few ropes from a high bar. This was the birth of the trapeze."

"It was reported that ladies were particularly fond of him because of the garment he wore: a knitted all-in-one suit that stretched taut against his muscles, showing off his physique. The leotard served practical purposes as well, of course. It was easy to move in and aerodynamic, so he didn't have to worry about bits of cloth flapping around while he leapt from rope to rope. This garment was called a “mailott” initially, which simply means “shirt” in French."

"Leotard was so popular that he had a song written about him...

'He'd fly through the air with the greatest of ease
A daring young man on the flying trapeze'

"While he was encouraged by his father to pursue gymnastics at a young age, there was a point in Leotard’s life when he turned away from his training to become a lawyer instead. He actually studied for and passed his law exams. However, he tired of law shortly before joining up with the circus in Paris."

Now this is what's scary.  How did I find this post about Mr. Leotard who invented the flying trapeze a day after I did my post?  This was two days after I watched the movie. Remember that the song was written about him.

Is this only a coincidence?

I believe this is a sure case of synchronicity.

I'd love to hear if you've had any of these sorts of experiences.
What are your thoughts about synchronicity?

The Daring Young Man on the Flying Trapeze

I saw a great movie on the Turner Classic Movie channel called "It Happened One Night".  In the movie while riding in a bus one of the passengers starts singing "The Daring Young Man on the Flying Trapeze".  Some of the other passengers join in.  Now this has very little to do with the plot but it's one of those songs that just stick in your mind playing over and over.

I Hate Clutter!

Ever since I've been renovating my basement the house has turned into a pile of clutter.  There are boxes and papers everywhere.  Everything is very clean but just out of place.

I want to discard as many things as I can without throwing out some valuable or sentimental items.

Clutter keeps building up as if some force or intelligence is battling against me.

One problem is reading books about how to make my life simpler and uncluttered, instead of taking action.  This wastes a lot of time and energy.

Is there some intelligence causing the clutter?  It would be nice to put the blame on someone else.
Maybe my wife is messing things up just to be mean. But that would not make any sense.
I could blame it on goblins.
But I don't believe in goblins.  Sometimes it just seems as if someone is
messing things up.

I believe the real cause is entropy.

Here is a video that explains it best.

This is a bit too theoretical and not practical for what I need.

So I'll just have to set aside small blocks of time and energy to work on small areas of clutter. Maybe a half  hour or so a day.

Wish me luck.

If you have any ideas that you think might help, please let me know.

A New Year Brings New Experiences

Last night I learned that my daughter Laurissa is expecting her first baby!
She phoned as soon as she knew she was pregnant.  I'm so excited.  I wonder how it might feel being a grandfather.
Lynette and I playfully called each other grandma and grandpa. A new life is coming in the new year, how wonderful!
