Trying to Put Things in Order

Sometimes I feel that there must be a better way.

Our Smallest Christmas Tree Yet

When we were younger we bought a large live tree. Then we moved down to smaller and smaller trees each year. Finally we bought an artificial tree.  Little by little that got smaller each year until now we have the smallest one we've ever had. But it's the spirit of Christmas that counts the most.

My Freezer Shelf Fell Off Again!

I was used to digging through the freezer of my refrigerator to find what I wanted after the shelf kept falling off its holder.  Items would fall down and between the other shelves below. It was very frustrating. I finally found a fix for this today on the internet.  Here's the video: How to permanently fix falling freezer shelves in GE Profile Refrigerator It worked for me! I think it should work for other refrigerators with the same problem. Here's a nice cartoon about a man and his refrigerator:

Strange Pencil Sharpeners

Guess it can also be used as a "nose picker". Comes in handy when doing crossword puzzles while on the john. Just in time for Halloween. For the serious student of pencil sharpening technique.

Laundry Symbols

These symbols are not clear to me.  I can guess at some but I'm not certain.  How about you? Here is a sort of "test" I set up: It's not finished! For me the written explanations are useful.  I can do without any symbols.  There is no way most of them can be interpreted, so why bother to print them?  (Sorry the chart would not fit without being too difficult to see.) I just realized the use for the symbols.  They are to save space on the clothing label.   I usually just throw the clothes in and turn on the switch so that's why I never thought of it. But then you'd still need a chart to interpret the symbols. Print a copy for yourself if you think it might help.

Popeye

Meaningful Philosophy from a Cartoon Character I don't remember where but I read somewhere that in those days sailors had muscular forearms from tying knots with the heavy ropes of the sails and pulling anchors on the ship. Similar Quotes from Other Sources: This cartoon shows his tough side. I like his dance. A Tough Man

Remember Northern Exposure?

I was cleaning up my desk when I came across an old music CD on the TV series Northern Exposure.  I enjoyed that series so much! Here are a few videos: Theme Song Scenes from the Series Reunion

I Don't Want a Tattoo!

What happens if a mistake is made? I bet many of these tattoos are actually only body paint. I hope so! Isn't she hiding her natural beauty? With a False Mustache? It must be the only hair left on his bald head.  Maybe it's not as bad as the others. Not Worth the Pain

Chess Day

I always liked chess openings, looking for the perfect opening which would guarantee a win.  But there is no such opening. At best they only have small advantages, especially if your opponent is not familiar with the one you use. I rarely play. When I do it's against my computer, maybe once every few months. I'm not sure why but I've lost interest in it. I love the shapes of the pieces.  Maybe if there was more luck involved, like in a card game or Bingo, I might enjoy it more.  It would be less serious.  Maybe there's a chess game variation that uses dice somehow to increase the luck involved. "Invented in India in the fifth century, it was named “Chaturanga” and this is likely one of the oldest games of our era. the game then spread to Persia. When the Arabs conquered Persia, chess was taken up by the Muslim world and subsequently spread to Southern Europe. In Europe, chess evolved into roughly its current form in the 15th century. The game was develop

My Hot Water Stinks!

I have a problem this week about my hot water smelling like rotten eggs.  Not all my hot water from the faucets smells bad. It's mostly in one of the bathrooms. The cold water is not affected so I know it's the hot water heater. Hydrogen Sulfide Luckily I bought a warranty. the water heater should be repaired or replaced later this month.  Here's a video about what I believe is the problem.

My Rollator Is Ready to Go

My rollator came in a box with only a few pieces to put together. Easy, right? But after I finished it was difficult to steer.  Either something was wrong or I only needed some practice. The next day my physical therapist was coming for a treatment session.  I'd ask her to have a look. To my embarrassment, I had the rear wheels in front and the front wheels in back!  She was very nice about it, told me men sometimes tend to put things together without carefully studying the directions. It glides very easily and is much faster than a wheelchair.  The physical therapist told me to take my time, not rush with it.  After a little practice I think I'll really like it.  It's like a seat on wheels with a small storage bag.

Using the Pressure Cooker

I know where I went wrong. I browned it too much and did not have enough liquid in the cooker. This side doesn't look too bad.  This side tasted like some sort of jerky and I had to spit out half of it.   I'll try again in a week or so.

NATIONAL MEATBALL DAY

It is not clear how this day got started, but who can resist the idea of celebrating National Meatball Day?  There are many different ways to celebrate meatballs: Spaghetti and meatballs Swedish Meatballs Meatball Sub Meatball Pizza Turkey Meatballs Lamb Meatballs Porcupine Meatballs (made with rice) and the list goes on and on. There is a restaurant in New York that has 54 different kinds of meatballs.  Not only do meatballs allow for variety, but they move from appetizer to side dish to the main dish quite easily.  Meatballs can be made the night before and put in the crockpot, or days before and kept in the freezer.    HOW TO OBSERVE To celebrate, some restaurants give a free side order of meatballs, while others are donating money to homeless shelters. Cook yourself up your favorite meatballs or go out and order some from a restaurant near you! Use #NationalMeatballDay to share on social media.   HISTORY Within our research, we were unable to identify the cre
